Staff Site Reliability Engineer, Environment Automation
GitLab·Bengaluru, India
GitLab is hiring a staff site reliability engineer into the Dedicated team, working remotely from India. GitLab Dedicated is the fully managed, single tenant version of the product, and the team automates the whole life of those customer environments, from first provisioning through upgrades, security work and monitoring. You would own the automation that makes running hundreds of isolated environments practical.
What you would work on - Designing the provisioning and management automation behind a large fleet of separate customer instances - Debugging production problems that cut across Kubernetes clusters, cloud provider services and the GitLab application itself - Converting manual runbook steps, particularly version upgrades, into repeatable infrastructure as code - Building monitoring and dashboards that surface bottlenecks and wasted capacity - Taking a lead role during incidents and in the reviews that follow - Shaping architectural decisions about how the platform scales operationally
What they are looking for - Experience operating production workloads across many tenants or environments at once - Strong Terraform practice, including state handling and workspace strategy - Production Kubernetes depth, enough to work out why a deployment is failing - The ability to read and debug code written in Go or Ruby - A track record of on call work and of leading incident response - Comfort using GitLab itself day to day; note that eligibility depends on your location
Stack: Terraform, Ansible, Kubernetes, Helm, omnibus-gitlab, Prometheus, ELK, Grafana, Jsonnet, Go, Ruby, GCP, AWS
