Privacy Policy
How we handle your data as a reader and as a community member. Last updated September 2026.
Our core commitment
DevOps Society is a platform for engineers, not a résumé marketplace. Your profile is private by default. We never sell your personal data, and we never hand your profile, résumé or the member database to employers or sponsors in bulk. The only time your details reach an employer or event host is when you choose to, by applying to a specific role or registering for a specific event, as described below.
Information we collect
Depending on how you use the site, we collect:
- Newsletter: your email address, if you subscribe.
- Member account: your name, email address and a securely hashed password.
- Professional profile (optional): job title, years of experience, country and city, areas of focus, skills, job preferences (employment types, work preference, notice period, preferred locations, salary expectation), professional links, a short bio, and your profile visibility setting.
- Résumé (optional): a PDF or DOCX file you upload. It is stored privately and is treated as sensitive personal data.
- Consent records: which communication channels you have opted into or out of, with the date and the policy version, kept as a history.
- Activity: the roles you apply to or express interest in, and the events you register for.
- Technical data: aggregated analytics, and log data such as IP address used for security, rate-limiting and audit records of sensitive actions.
How we use your data
- To provide the account and community features you ask for.
- To send only the communications you have explicitly opted into.
- To surface jobs, events and research relevant to your skills and preferences.
- To verify your email with one-time codes, keep accounts secure, and prevent abuse.
- To keep an audit trail of sensitive actions (for your protection and ours).
When your details are shared, and only then
Your profile is not visible to employers or the public by default. It is shared only in these cases:
- When you apply to / express interest in a role: your profile (name, email, role, experience, location, skills, focus areas, bio and links) and your résumé, if on file, are shared with that employer, for that role only. You can withdraw at any time, which stops the sharing.
- When you register for an event: your name and email are shared with that event host, for that event only. You can cancel your registration at any time.
- Targeted invitations: if you opt in to job or event communications, we may email you about relevant opportunities on a sponsor’s behalf. We contact you, the sponsor never receives your details or the member list.
- Service providers: we use trusted providers to deliver email and to host and store data. They may process your data only to provide those services to us.
- Legal: we may disclose data where required by law or to protect the rights and safety of our members.
Employers and event hosts who receive your details this way are independent third parties responsible for their own use of your information, which must be limited to the specific opportunity or event you engaged with.
Your communication choices
Communication channels, newsletter, jobs, events & webinars, research, partner opportunities, and employer profile sharing, are each an independent, optional consent. You can turn any of them on or off at any time from Communication preferences in your dashboard. Withdrawal takes effect immediately, and we keep a history of your consent changes.
Security & retention
Passwords are hashed and never stored in plain text. Résumés are stored privately and streamed only to you or to staff/employers via the flows above, never served publicly. Access to member data is restricted and audited. We retain your data while your account is active; when you delete your account we anonymize your personal data and revoke any active sharing.
Your rights
- Access & export: download everything we hold about you, including your consent history, from Privacy & data in your dashboard.
- Correct: edit your profile, preferences and résumé at any time.
- Withdraw consent: change any communication channel whenever you like.
- Delete: permanently delete and anonymize your account. This is irreversible and stops all sharing.
- Unsubscribe: newsletter emails include an unsubscribe link in every issue.
Cookies
We use a single essential, httpOnly session cookie to keep you signed in, it is not readable by page scripts and is not used for advertising. We use aggregated, privacy-respecting analytics to understand what content is useful.
