Staff Software Engineer – AI SRE

Harness·Bengaluru, India

Posted Sep 21, 2026

Harness is hiring a principal software engineer for its AI SRE group in Bengaluru. The team builds systems that investigate production incidents rather than simply answer questions about them, drawing together deployments, source code, pull requests, alerts, telemetry, feature flags, runbooks and earlier incidents to explain what went wrong. You would set the technical direction for that platform.

What you would work on - Defining the architecture behind incident management, on call, reliability and automated investigation workflows - Building large scale Java services, event processing systems and the data platform beneath them - Creating AI investigators that correlate signals from code, deployments, telemetry and internal knowledge - Developing agentic workflows and retrieval pipelines that reason from evidence - Leading initiatives spanning backend, AI, integrations, frontend, infrastructure, product and design - Building shared platform capabilities so individual teams stop rebuilding the same pieces

What they are looking for - Twelve or more years writing software professionally - Depth in large scale backend and distributed systems, with Java preferred - Experience designing microservices and highly available production services - Personal ownership of production systems, covering on call, incident response and observability - A firm grasp of incident management practice, SLOs and root cause analysis - Active use of AI assisted development tools and a realistic view of where they fall short

Stack: Java, microservices, event processing systems, cloud infrastructure
